Advertising Fails

Alright guys I’m sorry I’ve been wanting to do this for a while and today shit really hit the fan and I just can’t take it anymore. This post is all about bad ad sales people.

Company #1
You gave me a free ad in your publication so thank you very much for that. But from the moment you said free everything just went downhill.
Your ad sales director and graphic designer did not know what CMYK meant nor did you know dpi.
Even worse was that you didn’t know what file format the ads should be.
You placed my Chicago focused ad in other cities without informing me.
You resized our ad and messed with our branding.
You invoiced me for a FREE ad and didn’t call me to cancel the invoice even when you found out it was a mistake.
And then today you put my ad on a page with full frontal nudity.
Lastly, when I called you today and asked you to pull my ad from further issues you were not apologetic. FAIL

Company #1 needs to learn to treat their advertising customers better. If ads are your only revenue then please be careful. Getting one ad is great but if you don’t manage that relationship you’ll never have returning customers.

Company #2

You called me last week to talk about possibly advertising in your publication. Here’s where you went wrong.
I am a current advertiser in your publication and have been for the last 4 months.
After I corrected you about our advertising status you decided to try and advise me on how we can improve our ad (thanks but we have an amazingly talented graphic designer for that).
You insisted you stop by the office to talk about more opportunities but if you had actually done your research about our company you would have found out that we are located in Chicago. You however are located in Dallas. FAIL

Company #2 needs to learn to open their computer and do a little research about their prospective advertisers. Don’t try to sell me on something when I’ve already bought what you are selling.

Company #3
You and I were on great terms before today. I was looking forward to our upcoming partnership and I had planned a lot of my budget and marketing around your publication. Today you sent me a letter saying that you are canceling the publication in the New York area. You refunded me my money and that was that.
You never called to tell me that our ad was never going to run. A little heads up would have been nice.
After looking at our banking statements I found out you canceled the Chicago publication as well. Where is my letter for that one?
Both of these publications were supposed to come out 2 months ago. Thank you for taking the time to notify me as soon as you didn’t go to press.
I called to talk to you about our relationship but your offices were closed. FAIL

Company #3 needs to put shame aside and think about their customers. I paid you money to run our ad. Don’t hold on to the money when you know you aren’t going to print.

I’m sorry guys. I had to say all of this. Feel free to comment or feel free to mark as read. If you’d dealt with the people I had to deal with today you’d understand my need to vent.

If I only had a brain...

Every since I was a little girl I have been obsessed with the Wizard of Oz. As a child, I called out to every hot air balloon I saw, "Dorothy! Dorothy!". As an adult, I received Wizard of Oz drinking glasses for valentines day (from my mom, Thanks mom!) and I giggled to myself the first time I used them.
For the record, it took me a while to decide which glass to use. Scarecrow...tinman...lion...no...it has to be Dorothy for the first time. Then it was the decision of which drink to christen it with. Soda(pssh) ...water(too plain)...no it had to be chocolate milk. Dorothy would definitely drink chocolate milk.

Like I said I'm obsessed.

Out of the 23 Halloweens I've had I'd say I've been Dorothy for a 1/3 of them.

One of my favorite things OZ related are my OZ books. Every year I buy a new book or two (or three) at the Printer's Row Book Fair (I love this day more than Christmas). I'm still trying to get my hands on a few books. RANDOM FACT: Did you know there are more than 40 OZ titles?

So that's it guys...my Ozsession (get it? obsession + OZ = Ozsession)

Lovin' this week

A party related find on urbanoutfitters.com. Behold, the beer belt.

I have a little obsession with cherry blossoms. Here is a gorgeous necklace.

Another cherry blossom related item on etsy. I love wall decals.

MTV cribs = my house

Bryan has this obsession with big televisions. A year ago he bought a 62" Sony Bravia for the living room. Granted, it was huge when I saw it but I have gotten used to the big tv (I love playing Fallout on it!). Well, for a while now he's been talking about getting a new tv for the bedroom. As of yesterday we had a 30" Samsung that was 5 years old. So last night we went shopping and we bought a 42" Sony Bravia for the bedroom.

Now that is the new tv. Mind you that picture is taken on the bed where the pillows are. The bedroom is approximately 7'x10'. The tv is monstrous in the bedroom. I can see both the tvs from the bed. It feels a little MTV cribs to me.

THE TEST
Whenever Bryan buys a tv he does the test . He plugs in the PS3 opens up a blue ray and puts it in. It's not just any blue ray though...it's Die Hard . He skips to one of the last chapters to the big explosion on the top of the building. He plays it over and over again until he says, "Ok it passes the Die Hard test." And then it's done. He'll never question the quality of the tv ever again once it has passed that test. Silly boy...

What were they thinking?

Last night, Kyle, Bryan, and I went to Walgreen's and we saw this ad.

(twss)

Can you believe that an art director and a copywriter actually made this ad? They sat down and said, "Hey, we need to sell this awesome $2 chocolate for Valentine's day. What approach should we take?" It boggles my mind that this is the piece of trash they came up with. If they created this ad without laughing and making twss jokes I'd be very surprised.

What do you think?

Happy V-day!

This is how I celebrate.

I made the boys matching suzwiches and added special value sized love flags.

Now I'm headed off to the Auto Show (ugh). At least I'll get to see a real life transformer.

Cut my hair!

Ok blogger buddies, I'm frustrated with my hair. I haven't had a haircut since May 2008 and it's getting ridiculously long (for my standards).

Here is a pic of me today...(you can see more long haired photos on facebook if you want)

I've been growing my hair out for the last 3 years but it's so blah I really don't know what to do with it right now. I'm willing to do anything. I'm willing to take advice. I'm willing to color. You give me your opinions and I'll do it.

Here I am with short hair 3 years ago...

Nothing is too extreme. Nothing is too short. Just help me get something better than this brown blah straightness.

I'll be getting a haircut at the end of this week so get your comments in early!

Should we expect politeness?

Earlier this week I was on the bus and the bus driver said:

"Excuse me we have a pregnant woman boarding the bus can someone in the priority seating section please give up their seat? Preferably a man."

I completely understand being asked to give up your seat for a pregnant woman. I guess what I don't understand is why the bus driver specifically called out all the men in that area. Is it really appropriate to expect a man to give up his seat to a woman? I am always grateful when a guy gives up his seat to me but I would never expect him to automatically give it up and I certainly wouldn't judge him if he sat down instead.

Girls:
If a seat opened up on a crowded bus/train and you and a guy are the same distance from it would you expect the guy to give the seat to you?
Would you offer it to him?

I asked my guy twitter followers earlier this week "Would you give up your seat to any woman on the bus/train?" and some of the responses were...

So guys what do you think, should it be just a polite gesture to give up your seat or should we expect it and be disappointed when we don't get it?

Lovin' this week

Few finds over the last few weeks.

Book covers that create a pixel like collage on your bookshelf. If Bryan was a dork like me I'd be all over this.

via Unplggd

A ring that has a hidden message on the inside. This one has "Marry me?". This would be a really cute way to propose to someone. :)

via Likecool

Heinz ketchup finally embracing their product. I'm glad they finally switched from a pickle on their bottle to a tomato. Makes sense huh? You'd think, but it took them 100 years to figure it out.

via Advertising is good for you

Adorable needle felted bird from LaurenAlane. This photo is too cute for words.

Hope you all enjoy!

BRYAN DO NOT READ!

So as I said just a few posts ago, I love doing small things to show Bryan I love him. Well, Valentine's day is just around the corner and I have a few ideas but I'd love some input from my reader(s). I'm not a freak when it comes to v-day but I do like to show him how much I care (cheaply). Last year I decorated his room with about 50 hearts that all said a reason why I love him. When he came home from work that night he was stunned to find his room decorated.

Anyone have any ideas for me for this year?
